IPL Player Stats: This is our guide to IPL career statistics: the all-time leaders in runs, wickets, averages, strike rates and appearances from 2008 to 2026, and a directory of every player profile on the site. Virat Kohli leads the run-scoring list with 9336 runs, and Yuzvendra Chahal has taken the most wickets, 233. Each player below has a full career page with season-by-season numbers, best performances and records against every opponent.

How to Read IPL Career Stats
A few numbers do most of the work in judging an IPL career. Runs and wickets show volume, and they reward long careers: a player who has been in the league for 17 seasons will naturally outscore one who has been there for five. Batting average is runs divided by the number of times out, so it measures how reliably a batter scores before getting out. In T20 cricket an average above 35 is excellent, because batters are expected to take risks.
Strike rate is runs per 100 balls faced and measures speed. Since the Impact Player rule arrived in 2023, giving batting sides an extra batter, strike rates across the league have risen sharply, so a 140 in 2012 was worth more than a 140 in 2025. For bowlers, economy rate is runs conceded per over, and bowling average is runs conceded per wicket. A bowler with an economy under seven over a long career has been exceptional, especially if he bowled at the death.
Context matters as much as the figures. An opener faces more balls than a finisher and has more chances to build big totals; a finisher’s value is in fast runs in the last overs, often when his average suffers from being not out or out cheaply going for quick runs. A spinner who bowls in the middle overs can keep his economy low more easily than a fast bowler who takes the death overs. Each player profile on this site breaks his career down by phase, by batting position and by opponent so that the raw totals can be read properly.
All figures on this page cover IPL matches only, league and playoffs, and count a match as played when the player was named in the XI, including the two matches abandoned after the toss without a ball bowled (Chennai v Bengaluru in 2012 and Rajasthan v Kolkata in 2024).

Virat Kohli is 2007 runs clear of Rohit Sharma in second place. Indian batters dominate this list because they can play every match: overseas players compete for four places in each XI and often miss part of a season for international duty. Only 10 players in the top 20 have scored 5,000 or more runs.

Yuzvendra Chahal leads with 233, 7 ahead of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Wicket totals, like run totals, reward long careers, and the bowlers near the top have all played well over a decade. Read the economy column alongside the wickets: a bowler who took his wickets at under seven an over across a long career was saving his side runs as well as taking wickets.

Sai Sudharsan has the best average of any batter with 2,000 runs, at 48.37, and Andre Russell the best strike rate, at 174.18. The two lists overlap less than you might expect: very few batters have managed to be both reliable and fast over a long IPL career, which is why the names that appear on both are so highly valued at auctions. Muttiah Muralitharan has the lowest economy rate of any bowler to send down 250 IPL overs, 6.68 runs an over.
Three batters appear in both of the top-ten lists above: Heinrich Klaasen, Jos Buttler and Sai Sudharsan. Klaasen’s combination, an average above 42 and a strike rate above 166, is the rarest in the table. Sai Sudharsan has the highest average of all after only five seasons with Gujarat, a figure that will be tested as his career grows. Among bowlers, Sunil Narine stands out: he is the only player with an economy under seven across more than 200 matches, and his 207 wickets put him third on the all-time list.
