Yuzvendra Chahal IPL Stats: Career Overview and Headline Numbers

Yuzvendra Chahal became one of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s key bowlers after joining them in 2014 and later played for Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings. He won the Purple Cap with Rajasthan in 2022 and became the IPL’s all-time leading wicket taker.

Career Story

Chahal played one match for Mumbai in 2013 before Bengaluru gave him a regular place in 2014. Over eight seasons there he was the most consistent wicket-taker in their side, taking 21 or more wickets three times on the smallest ground in the league, where most spinners struggled. He was released after 2021 and joined Rajasthan.

His first season at Rajasthan was his best. He took 27 wickets in 2022, including a hat-trick against Kolkata in a five-wicket haul, and won the Purple Cap as Rajasthan reached the final. In 2024 he became the first bowler to take 200 IPL wickets. He moved to Punjab for 2025 and reached the final again in his first season with them, finishing his 2026 campaign as the leading wicket-taker in IPL history with 233.

The one trend that has gone against him is cost. At Bengaluru his economy rate was between 7.0 and 7.9 in six of his eight seasons; in 2024, 2025 and 2026 it was 9.41, 9.56 and 9.39, a reflection of how much faster batting became in the Impact Player era rather than a decline in his wicket-taking, which stayed at 12 or more a season.

Yuzvendra Chahal has played 188 IPL matches across 14 seasons. With the bat he has 37 runs from 17 innings. He has been dismissed 7 times, giving an average of 5.29, and he scores at 43.02 runs per 100 balls, with 0 fours and 0 sixes. With the ball he has 233 wickets from 672.5 overs, ranking 1st all-time, conceding 8.05 an over and taking a wicket every 17.3 balls.
