What the Orange Cap Is and How It Is Decided
The Orange Cap is worn on the field by the batter with the most runs in the season so far, and the leader at the end of the tournament, playoffs included, keeps the award. If two batters finish level on runs, the one with the better strike rate is ranked ahead. Because the leader wears the cap during matches, the race is visible all season, and in a tight year it can change hands in the final week. Totals have climbed steadily: winners needed around 600 runs in the early seasons, while recent winners have regularly passed 700.
