Jos Buttler IPL Stats: Career Overview and Headline Numbers
Jos Buttler began his IPL career at Mumbai Indians before becoming the heartbeat of Rajasthan Royals’ batting, where his 2022 season produced four hundreds and the Orange Cap as Rajasthan reached the final. He later joined Gujarat Titans.
Career Story
Buttler’s IPL career has run in three distinct chapters. At Mumbai in 2016 and 2017 he batted mostly in the middle order and passed 50 only once in 24 matches, a useful hitter without a fixed role. The move to Rajasthan in 2018 changed everything. Promoted to open midway through that season, he hit five fifties in a row, finishing with 548 runs, and became the side’s first-choice opener for the next six years.
His peak came in 2022. Buttler scored 863 runs in 17 matches, the third-highest total in any IPL season, with four hundreds, equalling Virat Kohli’s 2016 record for most hundreds in a season. Rajasthan reached their first final since 2008 on the back of those runs, and he won the Orange Cap. Two more hundreds followed in 2024, including an unbeaten 107 that finished a chase against Kolkata.
Released by Rajasthan before IPL 2025, he joined Gujarat Titans and settled at number three behind Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. His 538 runs in 2025 came at a strike rate of 163.03, the fastest of any of his IPL seasons, and he added 526 more in 2026 as Gujarat reached the final. In eleven seasons he has passed 500 runs four times, all after his 27th birthday.
Jos Buttler has played 138 IPL matches across 11 seasons. With the bat he has 4646 runs from 136 innings, which ranks him 15th on the all-time run-scoring list. He has been dismissed 117 times, giving an average of 39.71, and he scores at 149.73 runs per 100 balls, with 458 fours and 211 sixes.
