Playoff Results and How Each Team Qualified

The league table was the tightest in years. Bengaluru, Gujarat and Sunrisers all finished on 18 points with nine wins each, separated only by net run rate, and Rajasthan took fourth place on 16. Sunrisers, level on points with the top two, were third on net run rate, which cost them a second chance: they lost the Eliminator to Rajasthan by 47 runs and went out. Punjab, the 2025 runners-up, missed out by a single point on 15. Mumbai and Lucknow both finished on eight points with four wins, Mumbai’s joint-worst league return. Rajasthan’s Vaibhav Sooryavanshi won the Orange Cap with 776 runs, and Kagiso Rabada of Gujarat took the Purple Cap with 29 wickets, one ahead of Bengaluru’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Bengaluru topped the table on net run rate, so both of the 2026 finalists, Bengaluru and Gujarat, came from the top two, and the final was a rematch of Qualifier 1, which Bengaluru had won by 92 runs five days earlier. Sooryavanshi’s two playoff innings, 97 and 96, added 193 runs in 76 balls, but Rajasthan went no further than Qualifier 2. Gujarat’s openers Shubman Gill (732) and Sai Sudharsan (722) both passed 700 runs, the first time two team-mates have done so in the same IPL season. Bengaluru retained the title by winning both of their knockout games comfortably. Rajat Patidar’s unbeaten 93 off 33 balls set up a 92-run win over Gujarat in Qualifier 1. Rajasthan, behind a 29-ball 97 from 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, knocked out Sunrisers by 47 runs in the Eliminator, but in Qualifier 2 Sooryavanshi’s 96 off 47 balls was not enough: Gujarat chased 215 with seven wickets in hand and more than an over to spare, Shubman Gill making 104 off 53 balls. In the final in Ahmedabad Bengaluru’s seamers, led by Rasikh Salam with 3/27, held Gujarat to 155/8, with only Washington Sundar’s unbeaten 50 lifting the total. Kohli’s unbeaten 75 off 42 balls steered the chase home with five wickets in hand, making Bengaluru only the third franchise, after Chennai and Mumbai, to win back-to-back titles.
