Chris Gayle 175* for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors on 23 Apr 2013 is the highest individual score in IPL history. Only 3 innings of 150 or more have ever been played in the IPL; this page covers all of them and the rest of the top 20.

What This Record Measures and Why It Is Hard

The record is simply the most runs scored by one batter in a single IPL innings. With only 120 balls in an innings, and usually fewer for one batter, a score of 150 needs both a very high strike rate and a long stay at the crease, which is why it has happened so rarely.

The closest current challenger is KL Rahul, with KL Rahul 152* in 2026. Scoring rates in the IPL have risen sharply since 2023, so records like this are under more pressure than ever.

The Story Behind the Record

Only three batters have reached 150 in an IPL innings, and the first of them did it in the very first match. Brendon McCullum’s unbeaten 158 for Kolkata against Bengaluru on 18 April 2008 opened the competition and stood as the record for five years. Chris Gayle’s 175* in 2013 beat it by 17 runs, and the way he got there is part of the record’s legend: he reached his hundred in 30 balls, still the fastest in the IPL, and finished with 17 sixes, still the most in a single IPL innings.

KL Rahul’s 152* for Delhi against Punjab in 2026 is the only 150 to come in a losing cause. Delhi made 264/2, and Punjab chased it down with seven balls to spare in the highest successful chase in IPL history. Abhishek Sharma has two innings in the top six, 141 against Punjab in 2025, which set up a chase of 246, and 135* against Delhi in 2026. The list as a whole shows how rare these innings were for a long time: there were only four scores of 120 or more in the first five seasons combined, while 2026 alone produced three of the top 20.
